Gazelle Media

Media literacy and production training

Gazelle offers training in both media literacy and media production. Media literacy refers to the set of skills needed to be able to deal effectively with the media – fielding searching questions from journalists and using the media to raise your profile and advance your aims. It is useful for people who come into regular contact with the media or people who wish to gain exposure. Production skills, by contrast, are the skills used to create media content, such as radio and TV programmes: camera operation, lighting, sound recording and editing.

Media Literacy

The need

You may be someone who has to deal regularly with intrusive media enquiries. Or you may belong to a business or organisation trying to raise its profile through the media. Either way you will benefit from being trained in media literacy.

The fact is, bad media coverage can hurt you. Not all publicity is good publicity – despite the famous adage! The challenge is learning how to gain exposure whilst ensuring your message reaches people in the way you want.

Gazelle’s experienced team of journalists, producers and media experts understand how the media works, and can help you use it to your advantage

What we offer

You will learn how to:

  • build relationships with journalists to increase your chances of positive media coverage;
  • project yourself in a positive and friendly manner to encourage favourable attention;
  • write effective press releases that focus on what a journalist looks for in developing a story; and
  • gain greater control and understanding of your key messages and how these can be put across in the media.

Programme schedule

Our bespoke training packages range from 2 hours to 2 weeks and are flexibly scheduled to suit you. If weekends work best for you, that’s fine with us.

Production Training

The need

Media production is a competitive and rapidly evolving business so it's important that those wanting to progress within the industry - and those wishing to make the transition from another industry - are trained to the highest possible standard.

Gazelle’s team possesses a wealth of production experience gained over many years in all types of media (TV, radio, web and print) and also has expertise in education and training delivery. We draw on this experience to deliver first class training programmes teaching you the latest skills and techniques to help you grow in the industry.

We are open to all, but we take a personal interest in seeing greater diversity within the media industry, especially at the highest levels. Minority groups often face barriers to success, but we can show you how to overcome these barriers.

What we offer

Our two main programmes are a conversion course aimed at people wanting to move into media from another sector, and an upskilling course for people within the industry wanting to step up.

You will learn:

  • how to operate filming equipment; and
  • how to use editing software.

Programme schedule

As with our other training courses, this programme can be flexibly tailored to suit your needs.
